The activities of these project and implimentations are characteristically subject to relatively small amount of variation. CPM is found to be of much use in the construction of massive structures like dams, bridges, tunnels, high rise buildings, etc., CPM is not suitable for research and development type of project and implimentations. Activities time In the network, it is important to know the criticality of the activity, time available to perform the activity provided date of completion of a project and implimentation. In the previous section we have already talked about various method of obtaining activity duration. We shall be interested in the question that How early we can start the activity. How much we can delay the activity such that target date of completion of project and implimentation is not affected What the time available to perform the activity. To answer the above question we shall associate (define) following time with an activity a)       Early start time b)       Early finish time c)       Latest start time d)       Latest finish time Criticality and critical activity Sub critical activity when FT is +ve needs normal attention. Critical activity when FT is zero extra attention. Super critical activity when FT is –ve needs special attention.
